CENSORED!!!!
by The
Chronicle
(Again)
Wouldn’t it be neat if you could have your very own
talkshow to spew out your political propaganda, 30 minutes a day, five
days a week, every week, with no chance of anyone ever criticizing you?
That describes John Panesko to a T.
Panesko won’t allow anyone to criticize him over the air. He has banned
me from calling in. He uses his caller ID to screen off known Liberal
dissidents. And if one does slip through the cracks, he will humiliate
them by talking over them, interrupting them, trying to change their
subject, calling them liars, muting their mics so that only HIS point
of view can be heard, and if all else fails, cutting them off.
But hardly a day goes by when Panesko doesn’t tell his remaining
right-wing anti-government listeners that anybody can call in about
anything they want.
He’s a FRAUD. Anybody can be a talkshow host if he allows only people
who agree with him to call in. But he’s a right-wing fraud, so that’s
OK here in backwoods Lewis County.
There’s no communicating with KELA station manager John Di Meo. He
lives in Thurston County. Lewis County is his playground. He could
never get away with running such a biased radio station up in Thurston
County.
So we have only one local talkshow in Lewis County, but only one point
of view is allowed to be heard.
The Chronicle
Now enter The Chronicle. Specifically, Mike Wagar, “executive” editor.
He is scared to death of John Panesko. He WILL NOT allow me to write a
letter to the editor criticizing Panesko.
So I can’t criticize Panekso’s views on his right-wing anti-government
talkshow and Wagar won’t let me criticize Panesko in his right-wing
anti-government newspaper. Nobody can beat a deal like that!
In other words, Wagar has set Panesko up as one man in Lewis County
above public scrutiny. But of course, we don’t know how many other
Republicans get a free pass in Wagar’s newspaper.
This is my THIRD letter to the editor about Panesko that Wagar has
censored. He also censored this one
and this one.
Wagar uses the excuse that all my letters about Panesko are the same.
In the first place, Wagar doesn’t practice what he preaches. For
example, when Wagar got a wild hair to change county government, he
published SIX editorials to make sure he got HIS message out:
1. December 13, 2007 – Time to Focus on Serving the People, Not Special
Interests
2. December 17, 2007 – Flood Makes It Clear: Time is Now for Change in
County Government
3. December 18, 2007 – Modernizing County Government Finds Support on
The Buzz
4. December 21, 2007 – Grassroots Voices Needed in County Reorg
5. January 5, 2008 – Effective Governance Requires Change Now
6. January 7, 2008 – Let’s Avoid Emotion in Charter Debate
When the Washington State Supreme Court overturned Initiative 747,
Wagar wasn’t a bit shy about publishing FIVE editorials bashing
Democrats.
1. November 11, 2007 – Legislature Must Restore 1 Percent Property Tax
Limit
2. November 16. 2007 – Governor Should Call Special Session Now to
Reinstate Tax Limit
3. November 21, 2007 – Republicans, Not Gregoire Deserve Credit for Lid
on Tax
4. November 22, 2007 – Cheers for Assessors
5. November 23, 2007 – Beware Legislature on How It Deals With Unused
Tax Authority
Those are just the most recent ones. I could say the same thing about
Wagar hammering home HIS view on the Growth Management Act and the
estate tax.
The rule is, when Wagar wants to get HIS message out, there are no
rules.
First, here is Panesko’s commentary.
So now let’s analyze my most recent letter Wagar censored.
I addressed two issues. First, Wager portrayed Panesko as a real
talkshow host by putting in a photo of Panesko wearing his radio
headphones. That is an issue that had to be addressed.
The second issue is that Panesko claimed he wants callers to provide
solutions. But as I pointed out earlier, Panesko won’t allow anyone to
disagree with him.
IF Wagar hadn’t allowed
Panesko to portray himself as a real talkshow host and IF Wagar hadn't allowed Panesko to
claim that he really wanted to hear solutions from all points of view,
I could have stuck with addressing the remaining issues in Panesko’s
commentary.
But Wagar doesn’t censor all my letters. Many times, he has simply
waited until all his right-wing wackos got their letters published
before publishing mine.
One time he refused to publish my letter pointing out that former
Chehalis police chief Randy Hamilton was a crook. Paul Dugaw was
running against Lew Hutchison for District Court judge. Wagar wanted
Dugaw to win.
Dugaw ran a campaign ad with him standing between former sheriff Bill
Logan and Randy Hamilton. That immediately set off my alarm bells. That
told me that Dugaw would be just another good ol’ boy in the
courthouse. When I ran for county commissioner in 2000, my campaign
slogan was “Throw out the good ol’ boys!”
Hamilton got caught stealing a rifle out of the evidence room.
Naturally, in Chehalis, he was never punished and retained his position
as police chief. Can you believe that??????
Democrat Bill Logan kept fellow Democrat Bill Mason from being charged
with a DUI after Mason drove his vehicle into ditch. Apparently,
Mason failed the breathalyzer test he took at the accident scene. Logan
got him out of the police station before he took another brethalyzer
test there. Mason was mayor of Centralia at the time, but resigned
shortly thereafter.
Wagar’s excuse for not publishing my letter was that I couldn’t prove
Hamilton was a crook or that Logan kept Mason from getting a DUI.
I couldn’t prove that Logan kept Mason from getting a DUI. For some odd
reason, there was no record of him even going into the ditch. And
Wagar, being the good newspaperman that he is, chose not to look into
it. So I let that one go.
But every gory detail about Hamilton stealing the rifle out of the
evidence room was detailed in The Chronicle. That was before Wagar got
here.
So I copied the pages out of The Chronicle, gift-wrapped them, attached
a card, and hand-delivered it to Wagar. HE STILL REFUSED TO PUBLISH MY
LETTER.
That just shows you how childish Wagar is.
In another thread, I reminded Wagar that he refused to publish letters
from Democrats in support of the Growth Management Act. Wagar brushed
it off, claiming, “Either they were libelous, had facts that could not
be verifiable, the people that said they sent them in perhaps did not,
or they were obscene, etc.”
In other words, Wagar thinks we will really believe that all those
letters from Democrats were either “. . . . libelous, had facts that
could not be verifiable, the people that said they sent them in perhaps
did not, or they were obscene, etc.”
How stupid does he think we are?
And when I pointed out that one of the letters was from attorney Gene
Butler, he didn’t respond.
And this is just from the letters I know about Wagar censoring. I'm
sure he has censored letters from other Democrats, but they haven't
stepped forward yet.
The Chronicle has long been known as the promoter of Lewis County’s
image as a right-wing, backwoods county. And this is a very good
example why. The Chronicle is like a Chinese newspaper. You get to read
only what Wagar allows you to read.
If we had only one local talkshow in Lewis County that didn’t allow
Republicans to call in, Wagar would be all over it. We would see
editorial after editorial after editorial condemning Democrats for not
allowing Republicans to call in on our only local talkshow.
Now let’s see if Wagar can defend himself against all my allegations of
censorship without his typical personal attacks. Let’s keep an eye on
him.
